UPDATE: Man wanted in Niagara arrested on child sex assault charge
Joshua Otto was arrested two days after he barricaded himself inside a home in Niagara.
NIAGARA, Wisc. (WLUC) - UPDATE: A 43-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges, including sexual assault of a child, two days after he barricaded himself inside a home in Niagara.
Niagara Police say Joshua Otto is being held in the Marinette County Jail on charges of sexual assault of a child, child enticement, felony bail jumping, resisting/obstructing law enforcement, and felony and misdemeanor drug charges.
Otto was arrested Wednesday around 2:00 p.m. Police found Otto on Don Chapman Rd. Police say information received through a search warrant led them to his place of hiding - an abandoned cabin near a rural town road. An undercover officer arrested Otto without incident.
Police say additional charges are possible, pending the outcome of interviews and the investigation.
On Monday evening, officers attempted to arrest Otto on a warrant at a home in the 1800 block of River Street. Otto saw the officer and barricaded himself in the home. Officers acting on a search and arrest warrant entered the home, but Otto was not there.
UPDATE: On August 8 at approximately 5:00 p.m, law enforcement officers went to a home on the 1800 block of River Street in Niagara to arrest a man wanted on multiple felonies.
According to the Niagara City Police Department, the suspect fled after seeing the officer and barricaded himself inside the home.
After refusing to exit the house and surrender, police entered the building but were unable to locate the man. Police have not said what the man is wanted for.
Police say that the scene is secure and there is no danger to the public.
This incident remains under investigation and some information from police will remain confidential at this time.
Assisting on scene were officers and representatives of the Niagara Police Department, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Special Response Team, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Florence County Sheriff’s Department, Marinette Police Department, Menominee Police Department, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Auxiliary, the Marinette County Chaplain, Marinette County Communications Center, Niagara Area Emergency Unit and the Niagara Fire Department.
There are several witnesses and social media posts that verified a large police scene in Niagara Monday night.
