ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A chase with law enforcement and an incident with a handgun resulted in a long list of charges for a man in Rowan County on Monday.

On Monday deputies with the Rowan Sheriff’s Office charged Gregory Shawn Terry, 47, with injury to personal property, possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, going armed to the terror of the public, failure to heed for light or siren, and driving with license revoked due to impairment. Bond was set at $20,000.

Terry was apprehended at Oak Breeze Drive near Mooresville Road just after 1:00 p.m.

Deputies say the incident began Monday morning when they were dispatched to Terry’s Oak Breeze Dr. home for a welfare check. While on the way, deputies received a call that Terry was at the home of his ex-wife’s grandparents, and that he had fired a gun while sitting on the front porch.

Deputies say they later learned that Terry had been in a dispute with his ex-wife and had gone to the grandparent’s house to speak with her. The woman went outside on the porch to talk with Terry, according to the report, and he pulled a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun from his pants.

The woman told Terry to put the gun back, but he did not. Deputies say she turned to walk back inside and Terry fired the gun up in the air. Terry then got in the pickup truck and left.

Deputies were given a description of Terry’s gold 2003 Ford truck, and began looking for him. They say they spotted the truck on Centenary Church Road and began to follow Terry. They say Terry refused to stop when the deputy activated the blue lights and siren on the patrol car.

At the intersection of Centenary Church and Mooresville Road, Terry stopped at a stop sign. The deputy used the car’s public address speaker to tell Terry to stop, but they say Terry waved his hands up in the air, then turned left and kept going, eventually stopping near his residence on Oak Breeze Drive.

Deputies say Terry struggled when they tried to apprehend him. They put him on the ground and were then able to place handcuffs on him. They say the gun was located inside the truck.

Deputies later noted that all four tires on the car belonging to his ex-wife were found to be slashed.

Terry made a first appearance on Wednesday.
