MH City Council member changes mind, files for re-election

Filings for municipal positions are continuing to come into courthouses around Arkansas, and more races have been developed in Baxter and Marion counties.

A current member of the Mountain Home City Council who had announced she did not intend to seek another term appears to have had a change of heart. Jennifer Baker has filed for re-election for Ward 2, Position 1, and Jay Volkman filed to be her challenger.

The race for Mountain Home’s Ward 3, Position 1 became official with the filing of incumbent Paige Evans. She will be challenged by Marshella Norell, who filed last week.

There was one other municipal filing in Mountain Home on Monday. Roger Morgan is looking to keep his position as the city attorney, and he currently does not have an opponent.

Another city council member in Cotter has filed for re-election. Cameron Ross is currently unopposed in his goal to stay in Ward 3, Position 2.

Two more incumbents in Norfork are seeking another term. Mayor Lisa Harrison and Ward 3, Position 1 council member Angela Parnell currently do not have opponents.

The mayor of Big Flat has also filed for re-election. Glenda Wiseman is currently unopposed.

In Marion County, another race has developed on the Bull Shoals City Council. Ward 2, Position 2 council member Dino Giannini has filed for re-election. He’ll be challenged by Brenna Ferrell, who filed last week.

Another candidate in Bull Shoals has decided to drop out of the November election. Phillip Simpson rescinded his candidacy for Ward 1, Position 1.

Another filing has been completed for the Flippin City Council. Danna Hunt is running for Ward 1, Position 1. She is currently unopposed, and current council member Tim McEuen has not filed for re-election.

A member of the Pyatt City Council has filed for the city’s top position. Cynthia St. Clair is looking to succeed Ken Hancock as the mayor. Hancock has not filed for re-election.

The deadline to file for a municipal position is Wednesday at noon.
