PIZZA CAT MAX (IN GREEKTOWN)

New pizzerias in Detroit often take after the classic Detroit-style pizza, but why not experiment with some weird pizza? Michigan’s first Pizza Cat is now open at 407 East Fort Street in Detroit’s Greektown. Try their specialty vegetarian Rainbow Road to get acquainted, which consists of pineapple, green pepper, red onion & roasted red pepper, or go straight for the beef and pork options if that’s your jam. DETROIT PIZZA BAR

An abandoned commercial space was redeveloped this past spring. The newness of spring coincides with the new life in the community, including dozens of job opportunities! This project had stability thanks to the funding from the Strategic Neighborhood Fund. Support new pizza bars in Detroit that emphasize local love. The staff and sourced ingredients from local farmers display pride in the city. All of them are Detroit-area residents with 97% of them living within a two-mile radius of the pizzeria. Head over to the eye-catching Henrietta Haus in downtown Hamtramck for an unconventional Hamtramck-style pizza. The swirling scents will invite you in before you even get a hold of the menu. The Penniman, a pizza with a savory peach-based sauce, (named after Little Richard, the Georgia Peach). They also offer coffee, cocktails, beer, wine & more! JED’S DETROIT

Chef Max Hardy served up the first outpost of a popular Ohio-based restaurant, Jed’s, to Detroit in 2021. The restaurant features a variety of burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, tenders, and wings, in addition to its flatbread menu. Where to start? You could go for the Eastsider with sausage, onions, peppers, and a tomato ranch aioli or a Double Down Flat Bread: sausage, bacon, pepperoni, onions, peppers, basil, garlic, and mozzarella blend. One of the best pizzerias in Detroit also happens to be a brewery. The original Midtown brewery-pizzeria combo Motor City Brewing Works still serves some of the best brick oven pies in the city. How about a Honey Boo Boo at the Canfield location in Detroit? It’s Olive oil, 4-cheese blend, goat cheese, oregano, and Michigan honey with a sweet beer to compliment. The brewery offers indoor seating as well as covered and uncovered patio seating both in Midtown and at its newer location on Livernois, the Avenue of Fashion. PASTAIO HANDMADE PASTA & PIZZA (ROYAL OAK)

Not exactly in Detroit, but we’re making room for more. Take in the freshness of Pastaio Royal Oak in the former HopCat space in Royal Oak. The restaurant is owned by Florida-based Pasqualle Lamarra and the doors in Royal Oak just opened on August 3rd. Enjoy their featured brick oven pizza and house-made pasta.
