August Yard of the Month named by Keep Gatesville Beautiful

Posted

Due to current drought conditions, Keep Gatesville Beautiful wants to encourage everyone to conserve our precious natural resource of water. During this time, they will be selecting their Yard of the Month from properties that are examples of how we can keep homes attractive while conserving water.

Keep Gatesville Beautiful has chosen the home of Sharon and Bob Meharg at 810 Leon Street as their Yard of the Month for August.  The Mehargs do not water their lawn and their place still looks beautiful and welcoming. Their charming home was built in 1905 and three generations of Mehargs/Scotts have lived in this home since 1916.

Three weddings have taken place in their home. Sharon and Bob are the third couple to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary while living there. Bob's aunt, Zelma Scott, wrote The History of Coryell County so they go back several generations in Coryell County. Their landscape features a Red Oak, Boxwood bushes, Nandinas, Yellow Lantanas (a Texas superstar plant),Monkey Grass, Photinia (Red Tip), and a gorgeous Post Oak tree with a ground cover of Asian Jasmine around the base. This home is beautiful in all seasons.
