GRAY (WGME) – On one of the hottest days of the year, a community came together to help a Maine farmer with a dried-up well.

When Kate Salvato woke up Sunday, her well had completely dried up.
Not knowing where to turn to get the water she knew her goats needed, she turned to Facebook.
She was hoping for a few people to reply and be able to spare a couple gallons of water, but more than 100 people she had never met came to her aide.
Her four goats drink up to 10 gallons of water on a hot day.
On Sunday, droves of cars pulled up to her house with buckets and barrels of water.
One person donated a large 300-gallon container. Another person came by to fill the whole thing with a pump.
Their family moved to Gray two years ago during the pandemic, not knowing anyone.
After Sunday, she has plenty of new friends.
“I didn’t know community was still a thing,” Salvato said. “I feel through COVID, everybody just felt isolated and alone. That’s not the case.”
In total, she thinks she was given about 800 gallons of water for her goats.
That much water should last her goats a few months, but she’s still hoping for some rain.
Until then, they have no water in the house and have been using some of their donated water for cooking and cleaning.
