Pirates tie for first at Swink Open

ALAMOSA – The Monte Vista High School boys golf team opened the season by tying for first place at the Swink Open Monday at the La Junta Municipal Golf Course.

The Pirates had a team score of 244 which tied for first with host school Swink.

Leading Monte Vista was Kaden Mellott who tied for medalist honors with a 78. He tied with Swink’s Justin Paolucci and Las Animas’ Damien Baca. The remaining Pirates all shot in the 80s. Liam Ellithorpe tied for fifth with an 80, Ryker Anderson tied for 10th with an 86, and Riley Bounds tied for 14th with an 89.

Monte Vista will return to the Arkansas Valley on Thursday as it will compete at the Fowler Invitational at the Cottonwood Links.
