Grayson County recorded notably fewer new COVID-19 cases last week than the previous week as the positivity rate remained steady.

For the week ending Sunday, the county reported 63 new cases of the virus to the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH), a 43.8 percent drop in cases from the 112 announced the previous week.

The county has now had 425 new cases over the last five weeks (85 per week).

With the decreases in cases, Grayson Co. dropped from an “orange” county, indicating a “medium” spread of the virus to a “green” county, signally a “low” spread, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Two bordering counties, Hart and Ohio, remain in the “red,” representing a “high” spread of the virus. Edmonson Co., though, also fell out of the “orange” and into the “green” last week.

The county’s positivity rate, which was 25.52 percent three weeks ago, rose only slightly from 18.13 percent two weeks ago to 18.45 percent last week.

(Positivity rate and case number statistics do not include residents who conduct home tests and fail to report results to the Grayson Co. Health Department).

No new deaths were reported, leaving the county’s death toll at 138, according to the KDPH.

Since the onset of the pandemic, Grayson Co. has had 8,750 cases of the virus diagnosed.
