1 charged after vehicle hits, kills pedestrian in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) – Georgetown police have made an arrest after a late-night crash left one person dead Monday.

Police were called out to Champion Way between Lexus Way and This Way Home Drive at around 6:30 p.m. Monday night when a vehicle hit a pedestrian.

Police said the victim was cleaning debris from the road at the time of the accident and was taken to the hospital and later died.

Champion Way was shut down for a while before re-opening.

The person driving the vehicle was treated at the scene and has since been arrested by Georgetown police.

Teresa Elam, 50, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to possess a license.

Officers said Elam smelled distinctly of marijuana. She was booked in the Scott County Detention Center and has since made bail.

Georgetown Police said they were called to Champion Way around 6:30 p.m. for reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.

Both the pedestrian and driver of the vehicle were given medical treatment, the hit pedestrian later died in a hospital.

Champion Way was shut down for some time but has since reopened.
