A Boston man is facing multiple charges after he was accused of attempting to rape a woman while impersonating a police officer, according to authorities.Boston police said a woman reported that 51-year-old Charles Singleton, who also goes by the name Charles Zimmerman, claimed to be an officer when they met in the Dorchester area after a social gathering.The woman told police that Singleton offered to give her a ride and then drove her a short distance to a nearby field. According to the woman, that is when Singleton suddenly showed a gun and ordered her to exit the vehicle and walk toward a dark field.According to police, the woman said Singleton began to grope her while making threats to kill her if she did not comply with his instructions, which were graphic and sexual in nature.The woman said she screamed, at which point Singleton physically assaulted her before stealing her purse and cellphone and fleeing the area.Police said they found Singleton near his vehicle and recovered the woman's purse, as well as a discarded .45-caliber gun equipped with a laser sight. Officers were also able to recover the woman's cellphone while pat-frisking Singleton as they took him into custody.Singleton was arraigned Monday in Dorchester District Court on a range of charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, larceny, kidnapping and indecent assault and battery, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. Bail was set at $50,000 and he was also ordered to have no contact with the woman, prosecutors said.Singleton's lawyer declined to comment.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
