CRANSTON, R.I. — South Shore responded the best way possible after suffering its first loss of the summer two days ago: With a resounding victory.

Chase Curro paced a balanced attack with three hits and five RBI and SSLL exploded out of the gate with a nine-run first inning as it cruised to a 20-4 victory over Maryland in the Little League Mid-Atlantic Regional 10s All-Star Baseball Tournament Monday at Cranston Western Little League.

The game as stopped after four innings thanks to the 10-run mercy rule.

South Shore, which is now 15-1 overall in All-Star play, suffered a heart-breaking 2-1 extra-innings defeat to New Jersey on Saturday and after rebounding with the win over Maryland, it is now tied for second place with both Pennsylvania and Delaware with 1-1 records in pool play. Manager Mike Zaccariello’s troops control their own destiny as their next two games are against Pennsylvania (7:30, Tuesday) and Delaware (2 p.m., Thursday) with an eye toward qualifying for the playoffs this weekend.

“It’s great to see the team respond after a tough loss on Saturday,’' said Zaccariello. “We’re still in the mix for the playoffs and we obviously have a pivotal game against Pennsylvania (Tuesday). If we can win that one, not only will we get our second win, but it’ll give Pennsylvania its second loss, so that’ll help us a lot.’'

Curro’s offensive assault included a double and triple and he received plenty of help from the likes of Jake Romero (three RBI), Joe Iraci (two RBI) and John Iacono (two RBI), who finished with two hits apiece.

South Shore, which was aided by several errors, wasted little time grabbing control of Monday’s contest after it crossed the plate nine times thanks, in part, to Romero (two-run single) and Iraci (two-run double) in the first.

Jace Anderson, meanwhile, picked up the victory after allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in three innings of work. He finished with three strikeouts.

Curro and Lorenzo Mineo combined to pitch the final inning for the New York State champions.
