One Dead, One Injured in Pedestrian Crash near North Main Street

WALNUT CREEK, CA (August 8, 2022) – Saturday morning, police arrested Briana Day after a crash on Pine Street that killed Maricarmen Leon.

The incident happened around 2:00 a.m., near North Main Street on July 30th.

According to reports, Leon was standing on the sidewalk with her friends when a pickup-truck jumped up the curb and struck them before crashing into a cement pillar.

The impact of the collision left Leon and another man with major injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 27-year-old Leon dead at the scene.

Paramedics also transported the other victim to a nearby hospital for further treatment. At this time, authorities are currently withholding the name of the injured victim.

Police later arrested the driver of the pickup truck, 28-year-old Day, of Concord on suspicion of DUI.

The family and friends of Leon made a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
