Disney Plus Day to Feature “Epic Events and Surprises” on September 8th

Disney Plus has teased on social media that this year’s Disney Plus Day, taking place on September 8, will be filled with “epic events, premieres, surprises, and so much more”. The event will happen the day before D23 Expo kicks off in Anaheim, California, where Lucasfilm will co-host a panel with Marvel Studios on Saturday, September 10, at 10 am PT.

This will be the second Disney Plus Day, following last year’s event that took place on November 12. In the previous edition, Disney Plus premiered multiple projects on the platform, in addition to teasing a lot of the upcoming projects on a Twitter thread. Star Wars was barely mentioned, with Lucasfilm only showcasing a featurette on Obi-Wan Kenobi that had already been shown to investors 11 months before. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios announced multiple new projects and premiered quick teases for the three shows they planned to release in 2022.

Lucasfilm also premiered a documentary short on Boba Fett’s legacy, ahead of the character’s own series the month after, titled Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett. As of today, we don’t know what we can expect from Star Wars on September 8, especially with Lucasfilm’s D23 presentation two days later. If they company will follow once again last year’s model of releasing logos for upcoming shows, we could get a specific release date for The Mandalorian season 3. Since the show was heavily featured at Star Wars Celebration, it’s possible that Lucasfilm will decide to focus on other properties during D23, and might just reveal a specific release date for the new season via Twitter. Other possibilities include tentative release dates for next year’s live-action shows — Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. Lucasfilm could simply release (possibly new) logos for both shows and confirm “Summer 2023” and “Fall 2023” release windows.

And last but not least, we will probably get an update on the upcoming slate of animated series. Both The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi are scheduled to debut this fall on Disney Plus, but Lucasfilm hasn’t officially confirmed a release date for either of them (a Disney Plus listing said that the former will come out on September 28, but with Andor‘s recent delay, we don’t know if that is still the case). New trailers and release dates for both of them is a very real possibility, since D23 might be more focused on other stuff (The Acolyte, Indiana Jones, future Star Wars movies, etc.).

Disney Plus Day will take place on September 8.
