Shaking reported in Bay Area from Sierra Nevada earthquake

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck near the California-Nevada border on Monday afternoon, with shaking felt as far west as the Bay Area.

Shaking was felt throughout the Sierra Nevada foothills and reported in San Francisco, Sausalito and San Ramon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Officials also got reports from Vacaville, Stockton and Modesto.

The earthquake happened at 1:44 p.m. at a depth of about three miles near Walker, located on the western edge of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

It was followed by two magnitude 2.6 earthquakes at 1:53 p.m. and 2:16 p.m.

There were no reported injuries or damage.
