We are hearing about another staple of summer in Maine that is dealing with staffing issues.

According to News Center Maine, Gifford's Ice Cream has made the decision to close their Auburn location early.  The location, located at 910 Minot Avenue in Auburn, ended its season at 9 PM on Sunday, August 7th.

A statement on the Gifford's Facebook page says, in part:

We know this will be a disappointment to many in the community, and we are working hard to find a creative solution so that we can serve Gifford’s HomeMaine ice cream in the area. Our hope is to host a series of pop-ups with our new mobile Scoop Shack at various locations in the local community. We will share these dates and locations on our social media channels and through our newsletter when we have them. We appreciate all of our customers and enjoy being a part of their summer traditions each year. We look forward to being back next summer

Fortunately, their other locations are still open.  They also have locations in Waterville, Farmington, Skowhegan, and Bangor.

Gifford's truly is a Maine institution!  The company was started by Audrey and Randall Gifford when they began making small batches of ice cream using Audrey's parent's ice cream recipes.  Now, over four decades later, they serve up over one million ice cream cones each year.  Learn more about the company on their website.
