Tuscaloosa officers fire weapons at woman driving toward them during flee attempt
A woman is in custody in Tuscaloosa after fleeing police and attempting to run officers over with her car, causing them to shoot at her, according to the Violent Crimes Unit at the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.Capt. Jack Kennedy said the incident began Monday morning around 10:45 a.m. after the woman, who had "several outstanding warrants," fled West Alabama Narcotics Task Force officers in a vehicle. Tuscaloosa police patrol officers assisted WANTF officers in the search of the woman.The woman's car was found "a short time after" in the backyard of a home in the 1300 block of Montclair Circle. Kennedy said Tuscaloosa police officers were approaching the car on foot when the woman attempted to flee again by driving toward the officers.Kennedy said one officer fired a handgun and another fired a non-lethal beanbag round at the car, causing the woman to stop driving. She was then taken into custody with minor injuries unrelated to the weapons fired.The Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
