Franklin County deputies charged a man in connection with the homicide of a woman found dead and naked with marks on her neck in 1991. Deputies said in charging documents he is linked to another homicide five years later.
Robert Edwards, 67, is accused of causing the death of 30-year-old Alma Lake in Urbancrest on June 3, 1991.
Charging documents state Lake's naked body was dumped off the side of Olive and Craig streets. Deputies said her body showed signs of sexual assault.
Another woman, 36-year-old Michelle Dawson-Pass, was found nude and dead on the side of the road in a remote area of Granville, Ohio, in Licking County. She was last seen walking south on Kelton Avenue, heading to a friend's house.
Her body also showed signs of sexual assault consistent with Lake's body, detectives wrote.
Familial DNA, court documents said, initially linked Edwards to the killings of both victims in 2021.
Detectives wrote that Edwards denied knowing the victim when interviewed. A search warrant allowed deputies to collect and test more DNA which was sent to an Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation lab for analysis.
The lab on November 11, 2021, said DNA from inside both victims matched Edwards.
Edwards is charged with aggravated murder for the death of Lake in Franklin County.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office will be holding a press conference Tuesday at noon.
