GNADENHUTTEN — A man was pronounced dead at a Canton hospital after being injured by a chainsaw when he fell from a ladder while cutting a tree limb Sunday morning, according to Chief Steven M. Wright of the Arrowhead Joint Fire District.

Donald W. Braun, II, 66, was pronounced dead at the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital emergency room, according to the Stark County Coroner's Office.

Wright said Arrowhead emergency medical technicians, paramedics and firefighters were called to 1356 Miller Road SW in Clay Township for a fall victim at 8:59 a.m.

EMTs who responded at 9:02 a.m. were told by 911 dispatchers that a man had fallen from a ladder while using a chainsaw to cut a limb on a tree, and that he had been injured in the fall by the chainsaw, Wright said in a prepared statement.

EMTs requested assistance from Medflight and as well as Uhrichsville Fire Department paramedics due to the mechanism of injury, he said.

On arrival at 9:11 a.m., Arrowhead EMTs found a seriously injured male patient and began to treat and stabilize him, Wright said. Uhrichsville firefighter/paramedics as well as additional assistance from Arrowhead Joint Fire District arrived shortly afterward, providing assistance and advanced life support treatment to the patient.

"Unfortunately, Medflight could not fly due to the weather," Wright said. "The patient was transported by ground to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

"Arrowhead EMTs would like to extend our condolences to the family during this time of tragic loss. Arrowhead EMTs would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to our mutual aid partners at Uhrichsville Fire Department for their professional assistance in responding to this unfortunate accident."
