Rhode Island International Film Festival attracts worldwide attention

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Film Festival kicks off in downtown Providence this week.

Named one of the top 10 film fests, the film festival is expected to bring nearly 50,000 audience members to the event that runs Aug. 8 to 14.  

Opening night, nine short films will play that range from animation, short films, and short documentaries. One of those films screened on opening night has the potential to be nominated for an Oscar.

Through RIIFF, over 75 films have been nominated and 13 have taken home an Oscar.
