LPD Crime Analyst Receives Mayor’s Award Of Excellence

By Tom Stanton Aug 8, 2022 | 3:12 PM

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird on Monday presented the Mayor’s Award of Excellence for June 2022 to Crime Analyst Marie Mathine of the Lincoln Police Department.

Mathine was nominated by the Crime Analysis Manager Jeff Peterson for her work to track catalytic converter thefts. After noticing a spike in converter thefts in 2019, Mathine created a spreadsheet to help officers identify the patterns, perform predictive analysis and map trends occurring in Lincoln.

Mathine has worked with LPD and the Omaha Police Department this year to help link catalytic converter cases and suspects in Omaha to Lincoln cases. This has developed into a partnership between the departments to actively share documents and intelligence in real time.

“Marie is recognized at all levels of LPD and law enforcement partners for her outstanding commitment, dedication, loyalty, accuracy, preciseness with everything she puts her fingerprints on,” Peterson wrote in his nomination. “The Lincoln Police Department is fortunate to have Marie working as one of our co-workers as she has proven time and time again to be a great asset.”

Award winners receive a $50 gift certificate, a day off with pay and a certificate. All monthly winners and nominees are eligible to receive the annual award, which comes with a $250 gift certificate, two days off with pay and a plaque.
