“Deputies were advised of a stolen vehicle driving in the area of a Soledad, with the victim following. A deputy located the stolen vehicle traveling on northbound Highway 101 near Old Stage Road.
The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver, Yonig Maldonado, decided he wasn’t going to stop. He fled from deputies at over 90mph. Maldonado began brake checking deputies and drove on the wrong side of the highway, against the flow of traffic, multiple times in an attempt to evade deputies.

Deputies continued to pursue the vehicle into the city of Salinas on neighborhood streets. Maldonado attempted to get back on northbound Highway 101 at Fairview and deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the pursuit. Maldonado attempted to turn around and flee northbound again and rammed a deputy’s vehicle.

Maldonado was taken into custody and booked into the Monterey County Jail on multiple felony charges. Fortunately, no deputies or anyone from the community were hurt during this incident.600-8144.
