ATHENS, Pa. (WETM) – On August 7, multiple fire departments responded to a house fire on Wilawana Road in Athens Township. Now, the family who owned the home is looking for help from the community.
Bryan Farr, Fire Chief of the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Department, told 18 News that the fire broke out around 1:10 p.m. Sunday.
“Initial reports suggested that there was entrapment,” wrote Farr. “Fortunately, all individuals were accounted for and without injury when crews arrived.”
The fire heavily damaged the single-wide trailer. Farr said it “will likely not be salvageable”.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation with heat exhaustion symptoms and has since been released back to duty.
The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious in nature.
A GoFundMe is looking to raise $5,000 for the family of five. The family is also looking for any and all donations, especially clothes for the parents and their three kids.
The Athens Township Volunteer Fire Company was assisted at the scene by the Chemung Fire Department, the Waverly-Barton Fire District, the Athens Borough Fire Department, the Sayre Fire Department, the Ridgebury Fire Department, the Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Department, and Greater Valley EMS.
Additionally, resources from the Red Cross and Bradford County Emergency Management Agency provided scene support due to yesterday’s extreme weather-related temperatures.
