WAYNESBORO — Angela Mickens will be helping close the learning gap at Kate Collins Middle School this fall. The Staunton native and James Madison University graduate is the program director for the On the Road Collaborative, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that will be partnering with Waynesboro Public Schools.

On the Road Collaborative will be launching an after-school program at Kate Collins, per a press release from the school district. The Waynesboro middle school students will have the opportunity to participate in programming that supports them through academic coaching, and career enrichment courses. The release said there will be a focus on career exploration, community building, and success skills such as time management, teamwork, and communication.

The program is free of charge to all families.

“I’m excited to be part of the solution, giving back to the community and making a positive and optimistic impact," Mickens said in the release. "On the Road is going to be a great way for Kate Collins to connect with the community and for the community to connect with Kate Collins students."

On the Road Collaborative will be available for Kate Collins Middle School students four days a week beginning in September. If you are interested in enrolling your student you can contact Mickens by email at angela@ontheroadcollaborative.com.

“I’m looking forward to increasing our community connection and community involvement," said Kate Collins principal Marcia Nester. "This is an exciting opportunity for our students and will allow them to see the many opportunities that are available to them."
