Raynham Park 'totally ecstatic' about approval of sports betting

On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, 8-year-old English bulldog Mischka kept cool during the heat wave on a pool float in Taunton.

Raynham Park co-owner Chris Carney said state lawmakers' approval of sports betting legislation on Aug. 1 "means new life" for the former dog track. Carney says park workers are "totally ecstatic" about being able to offer sports betting under a new law. A new retail and simulcasting center is in the works, which will also accommodate betting on greyhound, thoroughbred, and harness racing. See what else is in store for Raynham Park. 

Town voters overwhelmingly defeated a move to withdraw Rehoboth's kindergarten through eighth grade students from the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District. Seventy percent of the 520 Rehoboth residents who crowded into two meeting halls at Francis Farm on a hot Saturday afternoon voted against the proposal, followed by a round of applause at the Aug. 6 Special Town Meeting. Local Beatles tribute band, The Star Club, is headed to Liverpool, England for the 36th annual International Beatlesweek Festival. The Star Club is set to play what is billed as a “sendoff” show at the District Center for the Arts on Aug. 20, what will be their final show stateside before heading to Liverpool for a string of eight shows in seven days, putting a catalog of over 80 Fab Four tunes to the ultimate test.
