High expectations await the Pitt Panthers as they get set to begin the 2022 campaign.

PITTSBURGH -- Last year's success has become this year's high expectations. The Pitt Panthers, fresh off an 11-win, ACC Championship season, have high expectations waiting for them in 2022. In the inagural USA Today Coaches Poll, Pitt checked in at No. 16, making them the third-highest ranked ACC team. The Panthers finished in the same spot at the end of 2021.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi was one of the 66 FBS coaches to vote in the poll. This is the first time the Panthers have appeared in the preseason Coaches Poll since 2010, after they won 10 games and finished No. 15 in 2009.

No. 4 Clemson and No. 13 NC State are the only ACC schools ranked ahead of Pitt. No. 17 Miami and No. 19 Wake Firest trail narrowly. North Carolina, Louisville and Florida State all received votes, but not enough to crack the top 25. Week two opponent Tennesee earned 163 votes, the third most among teams not in that top 25.
