FUNDRAISER. THE SPARTANBURG COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE THANKS FUDDRUCKERS AND THE COMMUNITY FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT. A NEW THEORY FOR THE EARTHQUAKE ACTIVITY IN SOUTH CAROLINA. SOME SCIENTISTS SAY THAT WATER SEEPING UNDERGROUND MAY BE TO BLAME FOR THE EARTHQUAKES. MORE THAN 60 QUAKES HAVE BEEN RECORDED NORTHEAST OF COLUMBIA NEAR LUGOFF AND ELGIN SINCE DECEMBER. FIVE OF THEM HAVE HAD A MAGNITUDE OVER THREE. GEOLOGISTS SUGGEST THAT AN INITIAL QUAKE IN DECEMBER MAY HAVE OPENED CRACKS ALLOWING WATER FROM THE WATEREE RIVER TO GO UNDERGROUND. Another earthquake was reported in the Carolinas, but it wasn't in Elgin this time. The United States Geological Survey reported a 2.0 magnitude earthquake in Archdale, North Carolina, around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. We point out that it wasn't in Elgin because that area of South Carolina has had more than 70 earthquakes recently.

Another earthquake was reported in the Carolinas, but it wasn't in Elgin this time.
