A Grand Island teen has been charged as an adult with stealing a vehicle that was part of a string of car thefts earlier this summer.
Favion Lara, 17, is charged in Hall County Court with one count of theft by receiving stolen property – more than $5,000.
Court records do not list an affidavit detailing the charges, but a complaint says the charges involve the theft of a 2013 Chrysler 300 on June 20.
On June 21, Grand Island Police said that at 1 a.m. that day, a man reported his mother’s black 2013 Chrysler 300 stolen from the west parking lot of the Old Walnut Apartments in the 500 block of North Elm Street.
Capt. Jim Duering said Monday that the vehicle was recovered in Rock Port, Missouri – a city in the northwest part of the state. He did not know how the vehicle made it that far.
On Monday, a judge set Lara’s bond at 10% of $20,000 and ordered the Hall County Public Defender’s office to represent him. Lara’s next court hearing is set for 11 a.m. Sept. 1.
