Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester Police officers responded to what is being described as an "unusually high" number of overdose calls over the weekend.

Police Captain Casey Moilanen says the first of three overdose calls came in just after 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 10 block of 11th Ave. Southeast. Responding officers revived a 31-year-old man by using Narcan. He was brought to St. Mary’s Hospital for further treatment.

The second overdose was discovered during a traffic stop around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. An officer knew the driver of a vehicle spotted at the 41st. St. Northwest Kwik Trip had a pending arrest warrant and a revoked license. After stopping and approaching the vehicle, the officer found two unresponsive passengers.

A 21-year-old Rochester man and 20-year-old Mankato man came to after the officer used Narcan and other revival methods. Moilanen says the driver, the 21-year-old man and a third passenger in the vehicle, who was not involved in the overdose-related revivals, were arrested on warrants. 

The third overdose call was reported in the 700 block of Nevil Ct. Southeast where a 36-year-old Rochester man was transported to St. Mary’s when an officer revived him with Narcan. The weekend’s final overdose report involved a 20-year-old Stewartville man who was found unresponsive on a kitchen floor at a residence in the 1,200 block of East Gate Dr. Southeast shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday. He was also given Narcan and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for further evaluation.

Moilanen says officers did not know what the subjects had overdosed on. He said four overdose calls is an unusually high amount to be reported over a 48-hour span.
