QUINCY — Quincy Community theatre has selected the cast of “Calendar Girls,” a comedy that will make its QCT debut Sept. 9-11 and Sept. 15-18.

The ladies are taking it all off — for a good cause. Determined to honor their late friend, a tight-knit group of friends poses for an “alternative” nude calendar as a cheeky fundraiser. When they suddenly become an international sensation, the ladies find both their self-confidence and friendships challenged. Based on a true story, this play offers laughs and life lessons.

A cast of 14 people will tell this story about friendship, love, loss and how taking big risks can lead to even greater rewards.

The cast is:

  • Bonnie Brod-Nytes as Chris Harper
  • Brenda Stalder as Annie Clarke
  • Heidi Haisley as Cora
  • Martha “Marty” Rubottom as Jessie
  • Sara Reuschel as Celia
  • Terri Stutheit as Ruth
  • Clarissa J. Hirner as Marie
  • Vicki Dempsey as Lady Cravenshire
  • Susan Disselhorst as Brenda Hulse
  • Mehico Po as Elaine
  • Bill J. Stalder as John Clarke
  • Jason Lewton as Rod Harper
  • Rodney Snyder as Lawrence the photographer
  • Sean Major as Liam, a TV commercial director

Director Brandon Thomsen said in a press release, “This cast is made up of QCT regulars — some coming back to the stage after an absence of many years, and some making their stage debuts. As the characters do in the play, these actors embraced a challenge, and I’m so glad to explore this story with them.”

“Calendar Girls” is under the direction of Thomsen. Scenic and lighting design is by Sabrina Brookshire, costume design is by Jenny Brown and stage management is by Kristie Bradshaw.

Tickets to “Calendar Girls” start at $20 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, online at 1qct.org, by phone at (217) 222-3209, or at the box office.

For those who would like a peek behind the curtain in telling this true story, QCT will host Discovery Night at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29. This free event invites the audience to see the costumes, set pieces, hear from the director and designers and watch a portion of the rehearsal. RSVP on QCT’s website to attend this event.

Audiences are invited to continue the conversation and meet the cast with a question-and-answer session following the performance on Friday, Sept. 16. The Talk Back also will be live-streamed on the QCT Facebook page for people unable to attend in person.

For more information, visit 1qct.org or call the QCT Box Office in the Oakley-Lindsay Center at 217-222-3209.
