COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A Pompano Beach man has been arrested following a shooting along Alligator Alley in Collier County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Juan Carlos Hernandez and three passengers were driving in a silver Mercedes-Benz when he approached another vehicle while traveling eastbound on Interstate 75 near mile marker 86, Sunday morning.

The other driver says he saw the driver was following him closely, before switching from the right lane to the left lane and began to approach. Then the Mercedes-Benz would roll down the window and point a pistol at him and his passenger.

As the driver attempted to get away, he heard a shot being fired. The driver would contact authorities, who were then on the lookout for the other vehicle.

Around noon, Troopers were able to identify the vehicle near mile marker 55. They were able to pull the vehicle over and conduct a traffic stop, where Troopers were able to find a black pistol matching the description given by the victim. Also located in the car was 51.4 grams of marijuana.

The victim was then brought to the scene, where they identified Hernandez as the individual who pointed and fired the gun.

”I didn’t believe this area was that kind of neighborhood. Road rage I guess is what they’ll call that one,” said Albert Dejordy, who was getting gas before getting onto Alligator Alley to head to Fort Lauderdale.

Hernandez was arrested and currently faces multiple charges including homicide which could cause death, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm from vehicle and shooting missile into a vehicle.

“You’re gonna have fun in jail you will, I used to work in a prison and so I know what it’s like. You’re going to enjoy your time in jail,” said another Cape Coral driver.

In addition, Hernandez and the other three passengers in his vehicle have all been charged with possession of marijuana.
