BIRCH RUN TWP, MI — A Flint woman is in jail after allegedly causing a drunken crash in Saginaw County that seriously injured two people.

About 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, the 55-year-old woman was driving on Birch Run Road/M-83 near Dixie Highway in Birch Run Township when she rear-ended a vehicle in front of her, Michigan State Police Lt. Kimberly Vetter said.

The other vehicle contained a 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Southgate in Wayne County.

An MSP trooper was on an unrelated traffic stop across the road, the collision happening right in front of him, Vetter said.

The occupants of the struck vehicle were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, specifics of which Vetter could not provide.

Troopers arrested the Flint woman and took her to a hospital for a sample of her blood to be taken. She was then lodged in the Saginaw County Jail at 2:22 a.m. Sunday on two counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury and one count of operating while intoxicated. The first charge is a five-year felony, while the latter is a 93-day misdemeanor.

The woman remains in jail as of 10:45 a.m. Monday, though she has not been arraigned in Saginaw County District Court, hence why her name is not being disclosed.
