CHEBOYGAN – It might’ve been scorching hot out on Saturday, but that probably didn’t matter for the anglers out at sea.

Like past years, participants all seemed to be enjoying themselves on the water while catching several fish in the process.

On Saturday, the 24th Annual Cheboygan Salmon Tournament took place, with fishermen heading out to sea with a shotgun start at 6 a.m. Anglers returned to shore at 2 p.m. and then had their fish weighed in at “The Big Tent” at Gordon Turner Park at 3 p.m.

Winning this year’s Boat Division title was Jo Jo’s Pintail of Sault Ste. Marie. The boat, captained by Joey Dobrowolski, finished with a total weight of 56.51 pounds.

Winning the Largest Salmon was Manistique’s Don St. John, who recorded 18.81 pounds.

This year’s tournament had 60 boats registered, 47 boats weighed in, and 1,210.49 total pounds of fish.

Providing entertainment over the weekend were Cheboygan musicians Billy Jewell and Charlie Reager, who performed at Friday’s dinner event and from noon all the way up until the start of the weigh-in on Saturday. Friday night’s dinner was put on by the Cheboygan Eagles.

The 24th edition of the tournament was put on by the Cheboygan community, Cheboygan Salmon Tournament committee, and the Cheboygan Trail Blazers.
