Road Construction & Travel Update

Many road construction projects are underway including bridge replacement work that has closed Highway 285 between Antero Junction and Fairplay.

This total closure will be in place through mid-October. The alternate route is Highway 24 and Colorado 9.  This will add 15-20 minutes to your travel time.

Other road projects include chip sealing on Highway 285 between Monte Vista and Saguache.  The project is expected to last until September.

Improvements to Colorado Highway 96 in Custer County continue. The resurfacing project will improve 26 miles of CO 96 from Westcliffe to Wetmore and is expected to be completed in November.

Travelers may experience delays along Chaffee County Road 350 (Crossman Avenue) outside of Buena Vista over the coming weeks while Chaffee County Road and Bridge works on widening the road.

Both sides of the road will be widened, beginning from Waters Street on the east to the intersection with County Road 361 on the west.

Construction is planned to continue through the end of August. Motorists should allow for travel delays.

The Salida Public Works Department has multiple capital projects underway.

This includes numerous work locations for street reconstruction, utility related improvements, and improvements to sidewalk, curb, gutter and crosswalks.

Sewer replacement work is occurring at multiple locations as well. Current work activities are anticipated to cause detours for sections of New Street and Holman Avenue.  Work at these locations is expected to take several weeks.

The improvements along 12th Street are scheduled to be completed this month. Work along 10th Street will begin once 12th street has been completed. The 10th Street project will take several months.

Each of these projects are expected to have periodic closures and detours established throughout the course of construction with limited access to local traffic.
