2 North Shore ponds closed to swimming, boating, fishing

LYNN. Mass. — Two ponds on the North Shore have been closed to swimming, boating, and fishing, officials said.

Sluice Pond and Flax Pond in Lynn will be chemically treated with a herbicide that targets the control of nuisance aquatic vegetation, according to city officials. The ponds will remain closed until Tuesday.

Additional restrictions include a one-day restriction on livestock/domestic animal consumption, a three-day restriction on using pond water for drinking/cooking, and irrigation of turf/landscape ornamentals, and a five-day restriction on using pond water to irrigate food crops/production.

The closures come on day when temperatures are expected to climb well into the 90s again.

Temporary signs that warn of the applicable water use restrictions will be posted around the pond shoreline in advance of treatment.
