A 4-year old child died in Warrick County, Indiana, on Monday morning after wandering onto Indiana 66 and getting struck by a vehicle, Warrick County Sheriff Mike Wilder said.

The sheriff's department identified the victim as Braxton Freeze of Princeton, Indiana.

Deputies responded to the incident around 4 a.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call from a motorist who said they'd struck a child on Indiana 66 near Lincoln Avenue, Wilder siad.

The boy, along with his mother and a sibling, were allegedly sleeping over at a business near the highway where the mother's boyfriend worked when the accident happened, Wilder said.

"They fell asleep and the child wandered away in the middle of the night," Wilder said.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the child wasn't injured and the sheriff's office does not suspect that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. Wilder said it was just an "unfortunate circumstance" that the child happened to walk in front of the driver's car.
