Nearly the entire town of Russell without power after generator malfunctions

Most residents of the town of Russell woke Monday morning as a community in the dark.

A generator malfunctioned and killed power for the full town early Monday, the Russell Electric Light Department advised around 8:20 a.m.

Eversource crews were working to restore power, which could return by afternoon, the department said in a message posted to the Russell-Montgomery Police Department Facebook page.

“Residents who are shut in or have medical conditions should make appropriate arrangements until power can be restored,” police said.

In comments on the Facebook post, some residents living closer to the Hungtinton or Montgomery town lines said they had not, in fact, lost power.
