Power restored to Russell residents after transformer malfunction

RUSSELL, Mass. (WWLP) – Power has been fully restored in the Town of Russell after a transformer malfunction Monday morning.

Russell police said that a transformer on Grove Street went offline leading to a town-wide power outage.

This left people hot in their homes as the heat advisory remained in effect Tuesday. 22News spoke with Lt. Sean Shattuck of the Russell-Montgomery Police Department, who said crews immediately got to work to fix the transformer.

“I don’t know what caused it to go offline, but it’s offline, but they have to take down most of the town to make the repairs,” said Lt. Shattuck.

A cooling center was also set up at the town hall and used by several Russell residents.

The town’s Electric Light Department, along with Eversource crews worked on repairs for much of the day. As of 3:30 p.m. power was restored to the town.
