Authorities said a Kansas man has drowned at lake south of Genoa.
The Nance County Sheriff's Office said at around 1:23 p.m. Saturday, emergency crews responded to a reported drowning at a private lake south of Genoa.
When deputies first arrived, they were told that the victim had been swimming around 100 feet from the shore when witnesses heard him call for help then disappear under the water.
According to the sheriff's office, the victim was last seen around 12 minutes before first responders arrived.
Deputies entered the lake and attempted to locate the victim but were not successful.
Further efforts to locate the victim using boats, volunteers, and thermal cameras also were not successful.
Mutual Aid was requested from the Platte County Dive Team and the Oxford Nebraska Dive Team.
The Platte County Dive Team arrived first and used sonar and a diver to search the area and were able to locate the victim's body.
The victim was identified as Wayne E. Mathias, 79, of Augusta, Kansas.
