CHICKASHA (KOKH) - Crews responded to a large fire at a manufacturing building in Chickasha on Sunday.
Officials say the fire spread to 12,000 square feet of the Chickasha Manufacturing Center, which was being used to store hand sanitizer.
The Grady County Fire Department, along with 27 trucks from other departments in the county, responded to the fire.
Reports say there were no people inside the building at this time.
As a result of the investigation into the fire, the Director of the Oklahoma State Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), issued an emergency order requiring an immediate cease in receiving hand sanitizer, cease improper disposal of hand sanitizer, as well as the transportation of hand sanitizer unless it is transported in accord with State and Federal law.
At the request of multiple agencies, ODEQ requested the assistance of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA is now at multiple sites in the Grady County area in relation to the hand sanitizer issue.
An assessment of the situation will be made, then the EPA will begin the process of removing the sanitizer to ensure the safety and well-being of Grady County citizens.
