Minnesota native and comedian Tommy Ryman is making his way to the Paramount Center for the Arts.

The comedy guru, a semifinalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, released a new album this spring that topped the iTunes charts. He’s set to release his second comedy special on Dry Bar Comedy this fall.

“I love doing standup comedy,” he said. “I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Ryman hits the Paramount with three openers, all Twin Cities comics, including Jeff Pfoser, Cianna Violet and Calvin Murata.

Ryman’s comedy is clean and he describes his comedic style as observational story telling that’s funny and relatable.

“I never intended to be a clean comic,” he said. “It just kind of happened.”

The last time Ryman was at the Paramount, he performed with comedian Mary Mack on New Year’s Eve. This show, he said, will feature some of his newest comedy including pieces from the latest special and some new material he’s written. Ryman’s latest work focuses on life after the pandemic, his Great Dane and his three-legged cat, among other things.

Ryman went to Utah last fall to shoot the special at Dry Bar Comedy which will release on its comedy app, and then later on Amazon and other streaming services this fall. The first special he did with Dry Bar was well received back in 2018 and it received more than 1 million views.

Ryman has been named Best of the Midwest at Gilda’s LaughFest. He’s performed on Nickelodeon’s NickMom Night Out and has worked alongside Nick Swardson, Hannibal Buress, Maria Bamford and Louie Anderson. He’s been featured on Paste Magazine and can be heard on Sirius XM and iHeartRadio.

The show at the Paramount Center for the Arts begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets are available at https://paramountarts.org/event/tommyryman_2022/.
