Kris Boyd claims Alfredo Morelos is better than incredible Celtic star

Both Celtic and the Rangers have won their first two games of the season, even though neither side has looked at their best till now. The title race this season is expected to be a very tight one and if these performances and results are anything to go by, that is going to be the case after all. Of course, there is a long, long campaign ahead and anything can change in a very short period of time.

One player who has been a particular standout for Celtic this season till now has been Jota. He scored a wondergoal from way outside the box in the first game against Aberdeen. And then away at Ross County, he ended up assisting all three goals, as the Hoops walked out with a hard-earned 3-1 win.

Jota had been on loan from Benfica last season and after enjoying an impressive campaign, Celtic decided to take the option to buy included in the deal in order to sign the Portuguese winger permanently. And with the start he has made to the season, many fans are claiming that he is the best player in the Premiership.

Kris Boyd, perhaps expectedly, is not of that view. As reported by the Daily Record, the former Rangers star said on Sky Sports:

"“Jota the best player in the league? I’m not too sure about that. Who would I go for? Let’s just say he came back and scored yesterday!”"

Morelos returned after a long injury absence and found the back of the net for the Rangers against Kilmarnock. And to be honest, he has been one of their best players for some time.

At the same time though, numbers don’t lie. Especially since Jota is a winger and Morelos is a striker, they should be in his favour.

Yet, Morelos has managed more goal contributions in the league than Jota did in the 2021/22 campaign for Celtic, in only one season during his time with the Rangers. That should speak for itself and nobody can argue that the Portuguese winger is quite some distance ahead when it comes to ability on the ball.
