VERNON, Fla. (WMBB) — Vernon High School employees and district officials held a meeting on Sunday after the confirmation of the death of the high school’s athletic director and football coach.

Superintendent Joe Taylor said this is a terrible situation for Vernon High School and the district.

“With the death of an AD, also head football coach, that’s a very integral part of the school itself and for the students that are affected, all of the students are affected,” Taylor said. “For the staff here at Vernon High School, they have a very close connection to Vernon Middle School. It’s a huge gaping loss.”

Taylor said the district will offer counseling and support to anyone who needs it.
