Federal officials report a new recovery center for Kentucky flood victims has opened in Knott County.
The center been created on the grounds of the Knott County Sportsplex at 450 Kenny Champion Loop #8765 in Leburn, according to a news release from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The news release said another recovery center is open in Clay County on the campus of Oneida Elementary School located at 435 Newfound Road in Oneida. The center is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Officials report the Clay County location will close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10.
Flood victims in Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Knott, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Whitley counties may visit any center to apply for federal aid, according to FEMA.
Homeowners and renters may also apply for federal aid online, use the FMEA mobile app or call 800-621-3362.
Aid may be used for temporary housing, home repair, childcare, transportation, funeral services and medical expenditures.
Applicants will need the following information ready to apply:
- Current phone number
- Address at the time of the disaster & current address
- Social Security number
- List of damages and losses
- Banking information
- Insurance information
FEMA advises flood victims with homeowners, renters or flood insurance to file a claim as soon as possible as benefits for losses cannot be duplicated. Federal assistance may be available for those with policies that do not cover the totality of damage expenses.
It is recommended that applicants take photos to document damage and repairs and keep any receipts from purchases related to cleanup or temporary lodging.
