2 dead, 10 injured in mass shootings in Detroit on Saturday

Two people were killed and 10 wounded in two mass shootings that occurred about 12 hours apart Saturday, Detroit police said.

A shooting Saturday night at a house in the 19000 block of Andover, near State Fair, left one dead and six injured, according to WDIV-TV (Channel 4). The shooting took place around 10:20 p.m. in a residential neighborhood west of I-75 and south of Eight Mile near the city's northern border.

The circumstances and motive are still unknown, the TV station reported, and police are investigating.

One person died and four were wounded in another shooting that took place Saturday morning at "a known narcotics, vacant location" at Saratoga and Gratiot, Detroit Police Deputy Chief Tiffany Stewart said at a media briefing. 

Police received a report of shots fired around 10:45 a.m. and arrived at the scene to find five people with gunshot wounds, according to WXYZ-TV (Channel 7)

Police believe the incident to be an isolated crime, and a possible suspect fled on foot.

It was the second weekend in a row that Detroit was hit by mass shootings. Two people were killed and eight others wounded in a  shooting in the early morning of July 31 over a parking dispute.
