I was glad to see Joyce Davis’s editorial giving tribute to Grace United Methodist Church in Harrisburg for not only apologizing for past injustices they have been a part of but for making changes to support those they have hurt in the past.
There are so many churches and Christians who believe in acceptance of and inclusion of LGBTQ people and those in the margins of society. They believe in actively pursuing help to “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40) – immigrants, the poor, those with addictions, and those who are minorities facing racial or economic inequalities.
Too often Christians with a different view, one that gives the impression of being judgmental, close-minded, and unaccepting of those who need Christian love and help the most, are the ones who are the loudest and who get the most press.
Many people think that all Christians are like this and are turned off by Christianity. Thank you so much to Grace United Methodist for speaking up. I hope that other Christians with similar values let them be known just as loudly and clearly. Also, thank you to PennLive/The Patriot News for frequently including and encouraging these progressive Christian voices to be heard.
