Before Logan Hall was a Bucs rookie, he couldn’t stay on his feet at Houston

Coach Dana Holgorsen threatened to move Hall to the offensive line before he clicked last year.

When Bucs rookie Logan Hall was a sophomore at Houston, he kept having the same problem.

“The dude couldn’t stay on his feet,” Cougars coach Dana Holgorsen said.

Because Hall had no control when he rushed the quarterback during practice, he ended up on the ground regularly. Holgorsen kicked Hall out of drills and threatened to move him from the defensive line to offensive tackle.

“He’d just kind of laugh at me,” Holgorsen said recently during the AAC’s virtual media day.

Hall, obviously, did not move to offensive tackle. Instead, something clicked for him between the end of the 2020 season and the start of last spring.

Not only did Hall learn how to stay on his feet for an entire practice, he became so dominant that Holgorsen told his defensive assistants to start holding Hall out of drills.

“One, we can’t get a play off if he’s in there,” Holgorsen said. “And two, he’s figured things out.”

The Bucs drafted Logan Hall out of Houston after his breakout 2021 season.

That showed last season, when Hall became an all-conference performer and led a solid Houston defense with 13½ tackles for loss. His breakout year led the Bucs to take him with their first pick (No. 33 overall) this spring.

Holgorsen said Hall landed “at a great spot” in Tampa. Holgorsen attended a Bucs game in December to watch another one of his former Houston players, linebacker Grant Stuard (last year’s Mr. Irrelevant).

“Obviously, watching the GOAT, Tom Brady, was a highlight, as well,” Holgorsen said.

Hall is scheduled to make his Bucs debut in the Aug. 13 preseason opener against the Dolphins.
