Moped driver dies after veering off road, hitting ditch, trooper says
An Upstate crash took the life of a moped driver Friday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said the crash happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday on Drake Road near Kirkpatrick Road, about two miles west of Ware Shoals, in Abbeville County.Ridgeway said the driver of the 2020 Sprint moped was heading east on Drake Road when the moped went off the right side of the road and hit a ditch. The driver was taken to Self Regional Hospital and then transferred to Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died Friday morning.The coroner has identified the victim as John Holsonback, 56, of Donalds.According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, alcohol was a factor contributing to the accident, the coroner said.
