JCSO: Person identified in fatal house fire in Jefferson City

The fire happened on August 6. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Deputies and TBI were on the scene.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — On Saturday, August 6, at 10:31 p.m., New Market Fire Rescue was dispatched to 2404 S.S. 92 in Jefferson City to a report of a residential structure fire, according to Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Upon their arrival, they found the home fully engulfed, and a woman standing in the driveway stating her husband was still inside.

According to officials, at 1:45 a.m., Chief Frank Solomon reported that firefighters had located a body inside the residence. The victim was transported to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center for identification. 

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office shared the identity of the victim as 62-year-old Richard Douglas Lowery. His wife, Marjorie Lowery, escaped the fire with no injuries.

JCSO said investigators are still awaiting autopsy results.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division and agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Arson Unit.

Sheriff's Office Deputies and Criminal Investigators along with Arson Investigators with the TBI were on the scene of the fatal fire.
