SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After a sizzling Saturday, hot and humid conditions stick around into Sunday. Heat Advisories are issued in CNY! Also, it will be a second day in a row with near record hot temperatures.
Today, our observed high was 93 degrees in Syracuse. This isn't far from the record high of 95 degrees set in 2001. Normally, our highs should be around 80 degrees this time of year. It was also humid today with dew points in the upper 60s.
Sunday looks just as hot and humid. Forecasting a high of 93 degrees, which isn't far from the record again. The record high is 96 degrees set in 1965. Also, our dew points will be in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees again.
This high humidity will make it feel like the mid to upper 90s. That's why we have Heat Advisories issued on Sunday.
This Heat Advisory is for Onondaga, Oswego, Madison, Southern Oneida, Cayuga, Wayne, Seneca, Tompkins, Tioga, and Broome counties. The higher elevations won't get as hot. The danger zone will be from 11am to 8pm on Sunday.
Here's some hot weather safety tips to beat the heat:
- Wear light colored and breathable clothing
- Stay hydrated, keep a water bottle with you, and drink well before you feel thirsty
- Limit sun exposure or any strenuous outdoor activities
- Take frequent breaks out of the sun, move indoors to an air conditioned room
- Check on the elderly, your neighbors, and pets
- Keep your pets indoors and do not walk them in extreme heat (can burn paws fast)
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, get help if needed
