CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - A Saturday morning attack on two law enforcement officers is under investigation in Cleburne County.

According to Sheriff Chris Brown, a Cleburne County deputy and Heber Springs police officer went up to the suspect. However, at the time they didn’t say when or where this took place.

Saturday afternoon an Arkansas State Police press release said law enforcement was responding to a call for trespassing in easter Heber Springs.

When arriving on the scene the sheriff’s deputy and a local police officer encountered 31-year-old Cody Weidemann from Bentonville.

During the interaction, Weidemann attacked the deputy and officer with a “razor-type instrument”.

ASP confirmed both law enforcement officials used gunfire to “subdue” Weidemann.

The officer involved was treated and released at a local hospital.

The deputy and Weidemann have been taken to a Little Rock hospital for treatment, both reportedly in stable condition.

“None of the three are believed to have sustained life-threatening wounds,” said ASP.

The sheriff’s department or ASP has not yet identified the law enforcement authorities involved.

Sheriff Brown added that the investigation has been turned over to Arkansas State Police.
